Chocolate… more chocolate…
A decadent kid-free lunch today, at the Anvers Chocolate Factory, one of the nicer foodie tourist traps around the Latrobe area (and that’s some serious competition, let me tell you). We’ve eaten there before, and raised their chocolate shop before, but today we had Lunch.
I had the Tasmania platter, a huge plate of local cheeses, cured meats and salad with a whole loaf of soft fresh bread, lemon dipping oil and strawberry sauce. The man of the house had the… oh, I forget the name. The Pie. It was a very French casserole-style pie with hormone-free beef, local carrots, celery and onions, in a red wine jus with chilli and chocolate. The whole spread was so good, we swapped at half time.
He had Belgian beer, I had Bream Creek Riesling. And to finish off, a pot of beautifully light hot chocolate each (in 18th century style chocolate pots), and a tasting platter of chocolates.
They also do Aztec-style hot chocolate, for the spice-lovers, served in lovely giant “Aztec” mugs.
Mm. Sleepy now. We’re heading home tonight, so local service will resume, more cooking for kids and less of these gourmet expeditions.
Wait, what am I talking about? Normal service? It’s Christmas. Aargh! We still have to do all our food shopping! And my mother has put in a request for a Mars Bar cheesecake!
