McDonald’s

Once again I’ve somehow managed to delete my McDonald’s rant.
Figures.
I’m not rewriting this a third time. But here’s the gist of it.

If you flip through the pages of a number of kids’ magazines, you get the impression that kids’ meals should be Michelin affairs, complete with matching dishware and veggies cut to resemble the works of impressionist painters.
Let’s be real. Parents don’t have that kind of time. And kids have to eat. The two are not mutually exclusive.
Kids' dish focuses on healthy, practical meal solutions for kids… and occasionally, that might mean matching dishware.

when I was a kid, my siblings and I would beg our mother to take us to McDonald’s. She refused to give. And it was on rare special occasions(on my dad’s part) that we ever got to eat there. Now that I’m older, I recognize how unhealthy it is and i appreciate the home cooked meals my mother made for us.

McDonald’s wields enough market power that what it says, goes, regarding the its (relatively) smaller suppliers. So it is responsible for the slight increase of square inches (yes, it’s measured in inches) that is allowed per chicken that lays eggs for the McMuffins. And because of them, the lives of many pigs are slightly less hellish.
But this is a not unnatural response for any corporation (excepting perhaps Wal-mart). They have the curse of being number one, and the target of activists, and therefore they do need to respond to them, or else they’d be stuck with the pickets. PETA doesn’t seem to care about Wendy’s as much.
But I really don’t know about the Hugo: http://consumerist.com/consumer/410-calories-without-taking-a-bite/introducing-the-42-oz–mcdonalds-hugo-drink-281188.php

A few years back I listened to a story about McDonald’s on NPR and was surprised to hear that they made the changes, no matter how small. I’m still not eating McNuggets any time soon.
The Hugo is just disgusting, but not quite as gross as the super gulp or whatever 711 calls it.
Three cheers to homecooked meals.
