Organic or not Organic

by

Tiffany asks: Do you have any thoughts on organics foods and snacks for kids?

Well - yes, I absolutely think that organics foods are better than non - that is, food that is effectively certified to say that it has had no pesticides or other icky additives involved in any part of the process to make it. It’s hard to see how that can be bad.

The best downside of organic foods of all kinds is that they generally cost more than a non-organic option. But, hey, chips are cheap, doesn’t mean we should be eating them every day…

I’m pretty slack about this stuff, I must admit. When Little Miss was first eating solid foods, I went for the organic baby food, porridge and snack option whenever I could. But now she’s bigger, the organics and non-organics aren’t on the same shelf for me to choose from… and sometimes I forget to go to the health food aisle or shop.

I think it’s a long time since I’ve actually kept an eye out for what’s available. So here’s what I’m going to do: today, we’re due for a supermarket shop, so I’ll see what’s around and get a few products to try & report back.

I’m thinking organic food here, rather than specifically snacks - as I mentioned recently, we don’t do much of the packaged snack food around here, sticking mainly with fruit and corn crackers for Little Miss’s between-mealables.

So how about you out there in webby land? What organic snacks or foods are easily available to you? Which ones do you buy regularly?

I buy organic when I can. I have to be an obsessive label reader, as I have difficulties with many food additives. With organic food, either I have shorter labels to read or less worry about produce.

About Kids Dish

If you flip through the pages of a number of kids’ magazines, you get the impression that kids’ meals should be Michelin affairs, complete with matching dishware and veggies cut to resemble the works of impressionist painters.

Let’s be real. Parents don’t have that kind of time. And kids have to eat. The two are not mutually exclusive.

Kids' dish focuses on healthy, practical meal solutions for kids… and occasionally, that might mean matching dishware.
