Pre-Pre-Christmas
Today I acknowledged to the universe that I will not be a crazy person this year, by purchasing a Christmas pudding from the local bakery.
We won’t be able to indulge in the usual week-long pre Christmas frenzy this year, as a family wedding will have us at the other end of the state for the whole week before Christmas. That leaves us with pre-pre-shopping and last minute shopping when it comes to food, and the fear of that lost week has actually pushed us into getting marginally organised this year.
The tree’s not up yet, but Raeli saw one at the library today and got very excited. Am still wondering whether it will be necessary to place actual tree in playpen. Probably will.
The tree has to go up early, of course, so we can take a picture for our Christmas card. We can’t send out cards three days before Christmas like last year (sorry!) because we won’t be there.
Having said that, every evening this week is booked. Feh. I do love decorating a tree, honest, but I’m not ready yet. I need a month to prepare myself properly for pre-Christmas, and November doesn’t count. Preparing for Christmas in November is just wrong. We need a month between the end of November and December, just to psych ourselves up for Christmas, rather than being ambushed with it in November, and grumbling so long about said ambush of Christmas music and trappings in supermarkets that we fail to notice that this was several weeks ago, and now Christmas is bearing down on us with the approximate weight and speed of a jet-propelled turkey…
Ahem. We have a turkey. And a pudding. Really, what else do we need? I’m planning to cook two festive things from scratch. One of them will be gingerbread daleks (probably using Jane Austen’s recipe to hit two birds with one stone, Gillian!) and I haven’t decided about the other, but it will probably come from my Bootlegged Mrs Beeton.
Everything else can be barbecued. Or raw.
Come to think of it, the most important Christmas supplies to ensure this year is a giant sack of rice, and a large bottle of soy sauce. Everybody’s getting bento boxes under the tree!

I think those daleks were inevitable. I can find you more recipes if you want to give the daleks some company :).

Our christmas tree is in a cage too.
Bento boxes I have seen are awfully expensive - do you have a cheap suppier somewhere?
