Weekend catchup
I spent a long weekend (Thursday to Monday) staying in a lovely, weird beach house on a hillside with a gang of writers, plus Little Miss and the Man of the House. We were catered for (or perhaps, “to”) all weekend by a dear friend, Dirk Flinthart (of Kids Dish Interview #8 fame).
The upshot is that Raeli has probably had a greater range of tastes and foods than she has ever previously managed over a 5 day period. She ate prawns for the first time, in a beautiful Thai fried rice, and munched vegetables far more happily than she ever does for me. (of course!)
Cereal proved difficult as the bowls of the house were large, and the table high, but we compromised by giving her cereal in a tea cup, which worked rather well.
Undoubtedly the highlight of the weekend’s food for Little Miss (who went to bed before most of the desserts were presented) was having her own individual pizza made for her. She wasn’t keen on the mushroom on it, (I thought it was worth a whirl - pizza is how I was introduced to mushrooms as a child) but happily scoffed the olives, ham, capsicum, tomato and basil as well as cheeeeese.
Made all the nicer by the fact that we ate outside, of course.
I’m quite tempted to dig out my old Nigella pizza dough recipe and make pizzas for the Horde on Thursday. We’ll see if my enthuasiasm lasts until then…
